NBC Dateline Broadcast
After 2 years of hard work, the NBC Dateline episode about me and my husband's experience on the Costa Concordia was finally revealed to the world on March 1st 2015.
Contrary to popular belief, we were not privy to the footage and final cut of the show until it meets the world. It was a bit nerve-wrecking to say the least. There were hundreds of hours of footage (that 10-second clip of my singing was the result of a 6-hour non-stop shoot)
I expected myself to be more calm than I ended up being. Watching the story unfold did sucessfully get a lot of emotions out of me. It made me remember the challenges and pain and hope and all of the steps to put this crazy episode behind us.
The days following the broadcast was heavy and a bit depressing; it is almost as if my body is remembering the trauma. Thankfully we have been through this before, and know how to navigate our emotions.
The best part of this entire process was that many people reached out and wrote us personal emails, talking about their feelings, and sharing their live stories with us. I feel connected to humanity and other people's hopes and dreams and sadness and failure in a way I have not felt before.
I think TV has this power: the power to bring something/someone really close to home..... because it is inside of your home.
