Familiar text, unfamiliar texture
Some religious texts transcend religions. Here is one of my most favorite prayers. I set this to music for 3 female voices for my friend's 80th birthday.
Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace Where is hatred, love Where there is injury, pardon Where there is doubt, faith Where there is despair, hope Where there is darkness, light Oh divine master grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console to be understood, as to understand to be loved, as to love It is in giving that we receive It is in pardoning that we are pardon (lord pardon me) It is in dying that we receive eternal life
